Early accounts of his life in the pastoral Italian countryside tell us that beasts and birds alike trusted and loved Francis’ gentle ways. His life and teachings are closely associated with reverence and respect for Nature. He believed that the whole family of creation - flora, fauna, and the earth itself - is deserving of our attention and care.
